FLUX is a powerful essay documentary that reveals sexism in the surfingindustry. As talent becomes an accessory to beauty, the sexualization of women in surf media creates damaging effects for women surfers everywhere. For fifteen-year-old Kahanu Delovio, the issues created by the media are becoming a hindering force as she pursues her passion for surfing in the waters of Hawaii. A compelling interview with Cori Schumacher, three-time Women’s World Longboard Champion, further articulates the issues as she shares her personal experiences with the damaging surf culture. A message that counteracts the media must emerge—one which tells girls that what they do in the water is more important than how they look. Featuring the voices of female surf icons both past and present, FLUX will empower audiences with its call for change and hope for the future.
